SUE CERBINS Blame Lucas and Spielberg. When I was a kid, my Dad took me to see a lot of movies like Close Encounters, Jaws and, of course, Star Wars, which is why I'm in this wacky business in the first place. After earning my BA in communication at UW-Stevens Point, where my nickname was "Sueage," I entered the Milwaukee film community as a production assistant in 1990. Duties included getting lost and scooping dog poop. It was then I was given the new nickname, "Sparkle." Over the next decade, I worked on the staff of two local production companies and wore the hats of writer/producer, account manager, senior producer, production manager and, more importantly, lunch-order taker. During most of that time, I was known only by my last name, "Koepke." I've had fun working on an eclectic mix of projects, everything from half-hour television shows and Walgreens Christmas commercials (remind me to tell you the pudding story) to deer-hunting videos. By far, what I've enjoyed most have been the relationships with my clients. I take each project personally and deliver something we both can be proud of. In 2002 I quit my day job to start a family, requiring yet another name, "Mom." After freelancing here and there, I joined forces with my peeps at Splice in 2007. ...May the force be with you! |
